While the elite, city bred professionals find political news as nothing but headline grabbers of any newspaper, it is interesting to note that the semi literate rural folks of Kerala have made politics their way of life.
Just set out on a drive along any post card pretty Kerala village to catch the glimpse of people sipping a cuppa of piping hot tea in a ramshackle thatched tea stall. A man in the middle would spread out the newspaper for the many curious eyes surrounding him, who would pull and push the paper in all possible directions to steal a glance of the latest headlines from US nuclear deal to global warming and more.

If you are a frequent traveler to the city of Kochi, you might have seen many a time lush green plantains in their prime glory sprouting from nowhere right in the middle of the busy thoroughfares of this city!
If you are wondering about its origin, be informed that it is not any hybrid variety that needs no soil to grow. What you see is only a sample of one of the innovative ideas of Keralites! This one would be obviously to draw the attention of the authorities towards a missing footpath slab or a gaping pot hole in the middle of the road that is large enough to trap an elephant!

The Kerala community is probably going the Chinese way . Thanks to the rising school expenses. Parents in Kerala are finding it hard to afford good schooling for a single ward. This has deterred even well-to-do young parents from having a second child. But the Church leaders in Kerala are worried about the dwindling numbers in their community and have encouraged the flock to multiply. We bet the contraceptive manufacturers won't be too happy. |

The love-hate relationship between electricity and rains is quite dominant In Kerala. Lack of rains would understandably translate to power cuts. But news for you! So does excessive raining. And electricity has an interesting habit of snapping at the most inopportune hour. Right when you are about to hit the save button after writing an arduous article, 'Zapp' it goes off. Or when you are rushing to the kitchen making an almost impossible attempt to save ur chappati from burning. Needless to say, an unsaved article and an over cooked dinner does serious damage to a happy man's spirits! |
