Thekkady

Thekkady located in central Kerala is famous for its wildlife reserve. Elephants, tigers and other exotic fauna and flora are protected in this reserve.

Thekkady abounds in well laid out tea plantations.A series of U turns takes the traveller up the high ranges. The Periyar forest offers adventure activities like trekking and camping out in the tiger reserve. Elephant rides and cruises on the lake are also arranged. An artificial lake was formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River.

It is the only sanctuary in India where one can watch wild life at close quarters while cruising on a lake.
