Thali Temple

The ancient Thali temple in Kozhikode dates dating back to the days of the Zamorins. Although the term Thali refers to a Shiva temple, the temple complex also houses a shrine to Krishna. According to legend Parasurama worshipped Shiva here. It formed the axis of the fouteenth century city plan based on vasthu sasthra laid down by the Zamorins.

The seven day Revathi Pattattaanam festival used to be celebrated here. It was a festival where learning and scholarship were celebrated with feasting and awards.

The attacks of Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali caused a lot of damage to the temple.It was renovated in the 18th century.

The present temple can be dated to the period of the ruler Manavikraman. The two storied sanctum is rich in stone sculptures and wood work with scenes from the puranas.
