Kumily

Kumily is a plantation town which is situated in Idukki District, Kerala, South India. It is near Thekkady and the Periyar Tiger Reserve.

Kumily is a major tourist destination and a spices trading center.In recent years, hotels. Kashmiri handicrafts emporia and small shops that sell local herbs and essential oils have spread south from the market area.

Idukki District tourist office (Mon-sat 10am -5pm) organizes a 'spice valley trip', which takes in Munnar and several spice plantations.

A popular excursion for families is to 'elephant Junction' ( daily 9am to 6pm) on teh outskirts of Kumily just off the Murikkady Road where you can enjoy elephant rides, help with feeding and wsahing sessions in the river and watch timber dragging demonstrations.

Nearest airport in Kerala is the Cochin International Airport.(208 km.)
