Mundu

Traditional dress

“Mundu” is the traditional dress of the men in Kerala. Keralites wear the mundu on formal occasions such as at the time of marriage and on other solemn occasions. It is a three to four meter long cotton cloth with a silk border.

It is doubled and draped around the waist and is the formal attire of the men in Kerala. It is mandatory for the men to wear a mundu if they wish to enter some of the temples in Kerala. This traditional dress also describes the Keralite and his culture.

A colourful “kaili” similar to the Malaysian “sarong” is worn as casual wear..
