‘A Day with the Masters’ is a mega cultural tourism package promoted by Kerala Tourism and Kerala Kalamandalam, the capital of traditional arts of Kerala. Kerala Kalamandalam is located at the banks of Bharatapuzha at Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur district. A Day with the Masters package which eminentaly attracts national and international tourists was launched in 2003.
Kerala Kalamandalam imparts trining in diverse traditional art forms. The tour package is of enjoying a mix of traditional arts at one go. First, the guests are offered an audio-visual presentation on Kerala Kalamandalam. Opportunities to experience Koothambalam – the traditional temple theatre – and attending of various Kalaris – teaching classes of arts – follow. The arts covered include Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, vocal music, cholliyattam, koodiyattam and other art forms. Opportunity is also offered to familiarize with percussion instrumens like chenda, maddalam, thimila, mridangam, mizhavu plus thullal and Carnatic music.
Presentation on Kerala’s mural paintings and Nrithyulpathi (the origin of dance) is also there on the agenda. A visit to the art gallery is an opportunity to see costumes, headgears, masks and jewelleries connected with the arts.
The three and half hours tour (from 9.30 am to 1 pm) is guided by trained students in art forms and ends with a lavish traditional Kerala lunch in a three-star hotel.
This tour package has a special mention from PATA Gold Awards and has won National Tourism Award in 2005.
