A Fascinating British-era Church

Many descendants of the British who were laid to rest here used to visit the church to know the details of their forefathers

History lovers and architecture enthusiasts are bound to queue up to Pallikunnu in Idukki to imbibe the beauty of a church built by Henry Baker in 1882 in Gothic style architecture during British era.

The tile-roofed church built with teakwood immersed in nature and surrounded by choola trees offers a mind cooling effect to the visitors.

Henry Baker, a tea-planter reached the sleepy hilly village on horseback as there was no road access to the place. Many British tea-planters followed him later

The church has several tombstones with British names, dates of births and deaths engraved on it. There is a tomb for a horse near the cemetery with no records written on it. Probably it may be the tomb of Baker’s horse.

Many descendants of the British who were laid to rest here used to visit the church to know the details of their forefathers.
