History lovers and architecture enthusiasts are bound to queue up to Pallikunnu in Idukki to imbibe the beauty of a church built by Henry Baker in 1882 in Gothic style architecture during British era.
The tile-roofed church built with teakwood immersed in nature and surrounded by choola trees offers a mind cooling effect to the visitors.
Henry Baker, a tea-planter reached the sleepy hilly village on horseback as there was no road access to the place. Many British tea-planters followed him later
The church has several tombstones with British names, dates of births and deaths engraved on it. There is a tomb for a horse near the cemetery with no records written on it. Probably it may be the tomb of Baker’s horse.
