A Flourishing Grove

The silent village Kolani near Thodupuzha in Idukki district is nursing a grove as different from other groves in the State. The grove in Amarankavu of Kolani is spread over 2.8 acres is very strict in maintaining cultural legacy. People are allowed to watch the grove standing behind the walls so as to maintain calm, undergrowth and biodiversity in the grove. In other groves people are allowed entry with no restriction, thereby causes damage to biodiversity.
A one thousand years old ‘thampakam’ (hopea parviflora) tree is an asset of this grove. Nature is flourishing here in full swing as no human entry is allowed. The local people are very alert to maintain the tradition.
