A born artist, Iripoolumkunnel Mohanan, 45, of Thottilapalm in Kozhikode district makes miniature models from anything. Be it eerkali (coconut leaf splinters), coconut shells or any other worthless item, he will create beautiful handicrafts out of it. His achievement deserves congratulations because his artistic achievement is gained working from his bedroom with no electric connection.
His unique creations include Egyptian pyramids, the Titanic, leaning tower of Pisa, Alappuzha houseboats, Eiffel tower, tortoise, butterflies, flowers, flower vases, images of Shiva, Nataraja etc. Just from a photograph he will create the models.
Mohanan is a toiling man. For the survival of his family he sweated as a fisherman, tree-climber, servant and coolie.
His wife wishes he concentrates on handicrafts and leave everything aside. To bread the family she is now working as a coolie.
