Interesting Police Museum
Police Museum in International Tourism Police Station at Mattanchery, Kochi taken shape two years ago has become a crowd puller.
The museum helps the visitors to peep into the history of the State Police starting from the era of Travancore kings. At the entrance a replica of Travancore king’s policeman armed with a spear and a yellow-dhoti draped bodyguard of the king greet the visitors.
A policewoman’s uniform of 1939, akin to Western style drape, samples of canes used by IPS officers, hats and swords of policemen of Travancore kingdom, a bronze-made gun-power pot, antique pistol, binoculars of 1920s etc are on display.
The models of policemen in khakhi knickers, policewomen in khakhi sarees, badges and ranks of police personnel, mounted police, constable of the pipe-band in ceremonial attire, dog squad and beautiful blue uniform of the Kerala Tourism Police are of much interest.
Models of commando in dangri, policeman in advance riot attire, policeman in bomb-disposal unit, anti-sabotage team with equipment, a photo of a commando with an automatic gun include in the display of modern time.
The free entry museum is open from 9.30 am to 6 pm. Almost all visitors, especially foreigners praise the museum. Visitors to Mattanchery Heritage zone spare their time to spend in Police museum.
