International Center for Muziris Studies
Kerala State will have an International Center for Muziris Studies within six months. The Center is aimed to be a nodal center for researchers, scholars and historians from world over who have interest in multi-cultural heritage of the Muziris zone in and around Kodungallur in Thrissur district. To research or imbibe the cultural ingredients of the ancient world the center would be ideal. Portuguese forts, Dutch palaces, Jewish synagogues, ancient temples, Chinese fishing nets, the first mosque of India located within the Muzluris Heritage Project Zone where the Center is to be located for researchers and the like the Center would be a treasure. The Center will engage in continuing research of the zone.
Among other things the project highlights include lifestyle and tradition of the local people. 75 local knowledgeable persons will act as a bridge between the local community and researchers. This bridge will ease the study, identification and evaluation of important sites, monuments, artifacts, different fishing methods, food habit, food items, method of preparation, history of street names and many more;
In the Center there would be a conference hall for talks, seminars and exhibition of Muziris related subjects. In addition, there would be digital and print data base.
Enquiries have already started pouring in from international community of researchers, historians and scholars.
