Kanakakunnu Kottaram (Kanakakunnu Palace) in Thiruvanthapuram is not only an architectural wonder but also is home to rare articles.

In an exhibition held at the Kottaram recently many arefacts of yesteryears including crude contraptions used for weighing and measuring, miniature gold coins, clever locking devices which made currency chests tamper-proof were on display. Copies of documents of royal records were also on display.

The palace is a recognized heritage structure with quaint Kerala style facade and massive crystal chandeliers. Scores of exquisite furnitures of royal years inside are things cooling the eyes and mind. A 65-metre long stainless steel flagmast with a giant national flag measuring 72 feet length and 48 feet width, the biggest flag in the country is there round the clock all the days for which government of India has given special permission.

A comptometer manufactured by Chicago based Felt and Farrent Manufactluring Company in 1904 is still there in functional mode in the Kottaram.
