Many varieties of yoga originated from Hatha Yoga, the highly popular branch of yoga. Power yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Bikram yoga and Kundalaini yoga are contributions of Hatha yogha. Physical poses (Asana), Breathing Techniques (Pranayama) and Meditation are used. This helps build the body strong and emerge subtle elements (spiritual) of the mind freely. Body is the vehicle for the soul, according to Hatha Yoga.

Hatha Yoga concentrates on the 3rd and 4th (Asana and Pranayama) steps of the 8 Limbs of Yoga. Asanas and Pranayamas energize the energy channels (nadis) and removes obstacles in the path of Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi, the other limbs.

Development of willpower, concentration and self-withdrawal are easily attained by mastering the Asanas. Asanas are easy routes to open the path to Pratyahara and Dharana, whereas Pranayamas (breathing techniques) help master the mind. Pranayamas do the job of regulating Prana’s (vital energy) flow in the body. Such a regulated flow of energy is necessary for taking further steps for Samadhi. The awakening of Kundalini Energy is also done by Pranayamas.

Arthritis, Hypertension, Diabetes etc can be prevented or cured by Asanas in Hatha Yoga while Breathing Techniques provide a helping hand to Asthma and Bronchitis hit. The soothing of stress, tension, anxiety, depression etc is successfully done by Hatha Yoga.
