Kerala Chicken Curry


  • Chicken 1/2 kg
  • Onion(big) 3 nos
  • Tomatoe 3 nos
  • Ginger - one big piece
  • Garlic 4 to 6 pod
  • Red Chilly powder 1 1/2 Tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 Tsp
  • Corriander powder 2 1/2 Tsp
  • Cumin powder 1/2 Tsp
  • Coconut milk 2 cup
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut Oil


  1. Wash and cut chicken into medium pieces. 

  2. Heat oil in a Mud vessel (Chatti) and add small amount of sliced onion, garlic and ginger. Saute` well. 

  3. When it turns light brown, add tomato and roast well. Remove from fire and keep it aside. 

  4. After cooling down, grind half of the onion mixture. 

  5. Add turmeric, chilly, corriander and cumin powder into the rest of the onion and roast well. 

  6. Put chicken pieces, salt and grounded mix into this and cook well. 

  7. Reduce the heat and pour the coconut milk into the curry and boil it for few minutes. 

  8. Remove from fire and serve.
