Dengue Fever Risk in Kerala
Chikungunya fever is a viral disease transmitted to humans by the bite of infected mosquitoes. There is no specific treatment for the condition as treatment is based on symptoms. Prevention is best achieved through insect repellent, the wearing of appropriate clothing.
The disease is contracted from a bite of an infected Aedes Aegypti mosquito (which is the common Kerala mosquito). The disease is not contagious from person to person. There is also no vaccine available.
For visitors, we recommend the wearing of appropriate clothing and avoidance of mosquitoes during the most prevalent times of day. Although the disease is endemic in Kerala, it is rare for visitors to contract it and to date we have never had an issue with Dengue fever.
